What Does The Local Internship REALLY Feel Like for Semester 3 Mechatronic Students?
The highschool I went to didn’t prepare me enough to actually go through this subject at first. Having only learned about Mechatronics for 3 semesters made me feel like I know very little about this subject. But the teachers and mentors I have on campus made me even more inspired to be better and explore more about the world of Mechatronics.
We as SGU Mechatronic Students, are obligated to complete 2 internships before we graduate, local internship and international internship. Local internship will be during our semester 3 and the international internship will be on the 6th semester. I’m currently doing the local internship at PT Sat Nusapersada Tbk, Batam. I knew from the start that I was going to do my internship here, because it is located in Batam, which is the city I grew up in and also where my parents currently live.
PT Sat Nusapersada Tbk is a company which specializes in electronic part manufacturing. I’m an intern in the PID (Process Improvement Department), which focuses on how to improve the manufacturing processes by making an automated version of the current process. For example, the project I’m working on currently is for an Automated X-Ray Counter Machine. I’m helping by designing the layout and also drawing the parts and brackets using Autodesk Inventor and Solidworks and after that programmed those drawings into Mastercam (CNC). Although I mostly helped with the design, I also used my time to help with the assembly. I’ve only been here for more than1 month, but I already learned a lot about how the automation process really works.
My mentor taught me a lot about the automation processes and has helped me to learn how to work with Solidworks. By doing this internship, it slowly creates a path to what I want to do after I graduate. I’m leaning into being a design engineer, because I like to work in the pre production more rather than to do all the wiring. Even so, since I have roughly 2 more months to go, I’ll improve on the post production area. Maybe by then I’ll know which way I should go later.
