English – The Key to Global Networking

English – The Key to Global Networking

English is the most common language in the world. As of 2023, an estimated 1.46 billion people speak English worldwide. Because of this, English is everywhere we go and look.

But what about the rest of the population who cannot speak or even understand English? Not being able to understand the most common language in the world would greatly impact their abilities to learn, network with others, and widen their outlook.

Learning a language is best when one is young, and the best age range to learn a language is before ten. What if we combine these two and give back to the community by teaching English to children?

That is precisely what was carried out on June 15, 2024. Sidharta Indra Winata, a Mechatronics Engineering Student batch 2023 and Brand Champion of Swiss German University used this opportunity to teach basic English to children in Babakan, Kota Tangerang. This was done to impact and give back to the local community. Having spoken English since he was young, this was a session under his level of knowledge.

Participants ranged from ages four to thirteen. They were taught how to give a brief introduction of themselves, including their name, age, favorite food, and more.

The children were very enthusiastic about this learning session. Many of them were laughing and having fun while stating that they wanted to be the next Ronaldo when they grew up.

After learning how to introduce themselves, the children were divided into groups, and each person was allowed to have the stage to themselves and apply what they’d learned, introducing themselves fully in English.

With this new knowledge, the children have opened a gateway to international networking, as they have overcome a small step to communicating in English. What better way to start their school holidays than to learn a language that can connect many people internationally?

And finally, after all the fun and games had finished, there were goodie bags for all the children, giving them a fun, sweet, and positive impression.
