Swiss German University (SGU) and the National Cyber \u200b\u200bCrypto Agency (BSSN) have collaborated on research on the implementation of Honeyspot as a malware detection sensor. The Cooperation Agreement was signed by the Rector of SGU, Dr. rer. Nat. Filiana Santoso and the Head of the BSSN Cybersecurity Research and Development Center, Dra. Rr. Retno Artinah S., virtually, Monday (December 21, 2020).<\/p>\n

This Cooperation Agreement is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was made between BSSN and SGU in 2018. This MoU gave birth to several Cooperation Agreements, some of which have been implemented.<\/p>\n

In this cooperation agreement, the SGU Cyber \u200b\u200bSecurity Research Group and the BSSN Cyber \u200b\u200bSecurity Technology Research and Development Center will conduct joint research on how to design a honeypot with a “high interaction” method. With a “high-interaction” honeypot, the effects of a malware attack can be studied in the context of a real system, not just an emulated system for a regular (low interaction) honeypot. The research activity will begin with a series of workshops from experts at SGU for BSSN researchers.<\/p>\n

SGU Rector, Dr. rer. Nat. Filiana Santoso said that the collaboration between BSSN and SGU began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the honeypot sensor cooperation which was signed in 2018. The research collaboration between SGU and BSSN produces products or services that are beneficial to society. The honeypot censorship collaboration has resulted in a portal on honeynet.bssn.go.id which informs the public about common threats or malware attacks in Indonesia, including the source of the attack.<\/p>\n

“We hope that research on honeypot sensors will produce products or services that can help the cybersecurity community to detect new, unknown threats,” said Filiana in her speech.<\/p>\n

He said the Swiss-German University Master of Information Technology study program has the aim of creating digital transformation architects and conducting research on malware analysis. Besides, SGU also has a SOC (Security Operation Center) which will be used to research cybersecurity threats with real data from SGU and other institutions. With SGU SOC, students can learn actual skills in security incident response. SGU is currently collaborating with the DKI Provincial Government to research in this SOC field.<\/p>\n

“I believe the cooperation between BSSN and SGU which has been going on for several years will not stop here but will be sustainable and cover other aspects and fields of science,” said Filiana.<\/p>\n

Head of the Center for Research and Development of Cybersecurity Technology of BSSN, Dra. Rr. Retno Artinah S., said the joint research activities with SGU are a series of Malware Analysis for Threats Intelligence and Detection System Assessment activities which will be carried out in 2020. In the field of assessment and development, BSSN has a high desire to advance the study and development of honeypot as a sensor. malware detection. This agreement is a design and construction of activities to be implemented in 2021.<\/p>\n

“It is possible that in the following year we can extend this collaboration by looking at developments in the implementation of joint research in 2021,” she said.<\/p>\n

This joint research activity is expected to produce output in the form of a honeypot application that can be implemented as a malware detection sensor. The resulting method is expected to be something unique from the existing conditions that have been used by the Threat Detection Directorate so that the outcome of the activity can be achieved.<\/p>\n

This cooperation agreement also discusses the mechanism for determining Intellectual Property Rights and patents, which are expected to produce a joint patented product. This shows high concern and seriousness in the success of the goals of this cooperation agreement so that all parties can have a share and receive the benefits.<\/p>\n
