SGU Student Regiment Unit Signs MoU with UNSADA Bushido Student Regiment Battalion

On August 31 2016 a delegation of the Student Regiment (Resimen Mahasiswa, Menwa) unit of Swiss German University (SGU) departed to Darma Persada University (UNSADA) for a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the student regiment unit of SGU and the Bushido student regiment battalion of UNSADA. The SGU delegation consisted of Head of the District Headquarters of SGU student regiment (Kamatrik Sat Menwa SGU), Dr. rer.nat. Filiana Santoso, Honorary members of the Jayakarta Student Regiment, namely Dr. Ir. Gembong Baskoro, M.Sc., Dr. Dr. Dipl.-Ing Rachman Sjarief, M.M., M.H., Dr. Eka Budiarto, S.T., M.Sc., and Mr. Yap Hong Gie. Other SGU delegates who joined the event were Director  HRD, Mrs. Elaine C. Engel, Post Grad. Psy., and Marketing Director of SGU, Mrs. Christie A. Kanter, B.A.

Other attendees of this signing ceremony were, among others, the Head of the District Headquarters of UNSADA Bushido student regiment (Kamatrik Menwa Bushido UNSADA) who  is also the Rector, Dr. H. Dadang Solihin, SE, MA, the Rector of Krisnadwipayana University (UNKRIS), Dr. H. Abdul Rivai, S.E., M.Si., the Director of PLN School of Technology (STT-PLN), Dr. Ir. Supriyadi Legino, M.M., MBA., M.A., Rear Admiral TNI Dr. Surya Wiranto, S.H., M.H. as well as the Head of Education, Training and Exercise of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Major General TNI Hartind Asrin. The ceremony was opened by singing the Indonesia anthem continued by speeches Rectors of UNSADA, SGU, UNKRIS, and STT-PLN.

After the speeches from the invited Rectors, SGU and UNSADA Heads of the District Headquarters of student regiment – who  are also Rectors of both universities  – signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strengthening the relationship and cooperation within the framework of the “Trilogy of Indonesia Higher Education” between SGU unit of student regiment and Bushido student regiment battalion of UNSADA.

The event continued with a presentation from Rear Admiral TNI Dr. Surya Wiranto, S.H., M.H. on the topic of “Crisis of Nationalism Among The Young Generation”. Dr. Surya elaborated roles and responsibilities of the young generation to overcome the so called Threats, Challenges, Obstacles, and Interferences in the era of globalization. He stressed that nationalism and patriotism for every student were very crucial, especially in its relation to the obligation of “defending the country” (familiar as Bela Negara). The nationalism which is meant here is the Nationalism that is grown in the garden of Internationalism as our founding fathers said.

After the presentation, several participants had the opportunity to take  snake handling training  and received an honorary brevet of Snake Handler issued by the Bushido student Regiment Battalion of UNSADA. In this training, participants were taught to handle a snake safely.

Following the training of Snake Handling, Dr. Rachman demonstrated the strength within the softness of Merpati Putih. Several stones and casting irons were broken using only human body parts, namely hand, legs, and belly and even with the little finger. He demonstrated how discipline, integrity, courage, strength, character, attitude, empathy, credibility, etc. together with years of persistent exercise can make even the actually vulnerable human body parts powerful.

The final keynote speaker was Major General TNI Hartind Asrin of the Indonesia Ministry of Defense.  General Hartind, the Head of Education, Training and Exercise of the Ministry of Defense, presented the very important topic of “Defending the Country” (familiar as Bela Negara). General Hartind explained impressively in detail the program of the Indonesia Ministry of Defense related to “Bela Negara”.

This program was addressed to any Indonesian so that they can have strong commitment to protect the Ideology (Pancasila), the Constitution of Republic of Indonesia 1945 (UUD 45), the Unitary States of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and the principle of Unity in Diversity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika) as the nation basic consensus.

General Hartind specifically invited SGU, UNSADA, and other universities to follow the training of “Bela Negara”, especially  the lecturers. The training is planned to be held in the training center of the Ministry of Defense near the SGU campus. All rectors welcomed the offer of General Hartind and will follow it up accordingly.
