Accounting Fun Competition Day 2017
Accounting is one of the compulsory subjects that is required to be completed with a high score by the students who are currently taking social class in senior high school. Some of them do not actually like Accounting too much because, for them, it is a difficult subject to learn. Moreover, choosing Accounting as their major at university seems like a scary thing. However, the students from the Accounting study program of SGU proved to them that Accounting isn’t that hard through an event titled “Accounting Fun Day Competition”.
The Accounting department of SGU visited Stella Maris School BSD on December 5, 2017 to conduct an accounting contest. The objective of this event was to enhance high school students’ understanding about accounting through a fun competition. Stella Maris was chosen as a respected high school in the SGU area, and was referred by an accounting student who is an alumni of Stella Maris School. The event was opened by Mrs. Imelda Suardi, the Head of the Accounting Department, and organized by students and lecturers from semesters 5 & 7.
The participants were 72 students from Grade 12 who are currently taking the social science/IPS major. They were divided into 24 groups and each group consisted of 3 students. There were 3 kinds of competitions. The first one was a written and multiple-choice quiz which consisted of 40 questions. The next was a pop quiz where the students needed to answer the questions correctly and fast. The last one was called charades where the high school students had to guess several accounting words. All questions were basically about an introduction to Accounting where accounting lessons are already taught as part of the Economics National Curriculum in high school.
The students seemed very happy and excited to participate in all competitions as they not only obtained a lot of knowledge, but also received certificates from SGU. To add to the fun, the students got extra gifts if they could answer bonus questions asked by the committee. At the end of the session, the committee had three teams consisting of 9 students who were selected to be the winners. They received hundreds of thousands of rupiahs and scholarships to join the SGU Accounting department. Congratulations!
