Design Thinking Workshop at IPEKA BSD
Tangerang, 18 April 2023 – On Tuesday, 18 April 2023, Industrial Engineering department lecturers (represented by Mrs. Tanika Sofianti and Mr. Ivan Kurniawan) with Industrial Engineering Semester 8 (IE2019) students had a workshop at IPEKA BSD Christian High School about Design Thinking.
In the workshop, there were 78 participants who split into two classes. Class A and Class B consisted of 42 students and 36 students, respectively and both classes led by IE students. There were four groups and five groups led by the Group A of IE and Group B of IE, respectively. The students asked to develop their smart speakers based on the guidelines given by facilitators. The Post-It Notes and a board were used by students to pour their thinkings. The workshop took place at the 3rd floor of the IPEKA BSD school.
The Creative Thinking workshop duration lasted for 2 hours, from 07:00 to 09:00 AM, and it was held after they finished their main tasks. During those two hours, the IE-SGU accompanied and explain to the students about essential points of creating a product, in this case, the smart speaker based on their idea and creation. Students learned about shifting of the industry from manufacturing to service, and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) on creating their imagination of a smart speaker of their own.
During those in-group discussion phases sessions of two hours, the Industrial Engineering student of Batch 2019 observes, helping and giving hints, and overwatch the high school what they are doing during those discussions of their smart speakers’ idea and what those smart speakers should and could do.
During the workshop, there were some groups of students that were highly active and abundant of ideas on creating their smart speakers. In other hand, there were also some groups of students that at a glance looks passive but when they were presenting their product, it was fascinating as other groups did. Interactions between the IE students and IPEKA BSD felt full of vibes all along, proof of intragenerational harmony during the duration of the community service workshop.
The final presentation was delivered by each group approximately 5-10 minutes, scored by facilitators (Mrs. Tanika & Mr. Ivan) and one of the IPEKA BSD HS teachers as the school respective, to find out who’s the best result of deliverables. The group winner and best performed from Class A was the last group or Group 4. Representative of the group goes to the front of the class and given package of gifts for the group by the IE department.. (TAN/LEC/IE)
