Biomedical Engineering held a Seminar of Treatment, Prevention, and Alternative Therapy for Diabetes Mellitus Disease
On July 2, 2015, This seminar was a collaboration work between Swiss German University, Dinas Kesehatan Kota Bogor, and Prodia Bogor.
The seminar was held in two sessions. First session was brought by dr. Eddy Darma, MKKK., Head of Prevention, Disease Control, and Environmental Health – Dinas Kesehatan Kota Bogor. In this session, he explained how to deal with diabetes disease in order for the patient to able to control his/her lifestyle according to the disease type. It was also informed about how to prevent the disease by living a healthy life in food preference, especially for people that have diabetes genetic in their family. According to dr. Eddy, the keys for the diabetic patients to maintain their activity without trouble are daily control of body parameter and always keeping dietary habit in check.
Second session was brought by Dr.rer.nat. Maruli Pandjaitan, head of research team from Swiss German University, regarding usage if butterfly pea leaf extract for alternative therapy. In this session, research data and results were shown by research team to 11 Diabetic Patient in research using Butterfly Pea leaf extract over 10 weeks. Overall the results are quite good, indicated by decrease of blood glucose level on 7 patients of this program. 3 patients still have relatively same level, and the last one have an increase. According to the research team, the only anomaly of the data was caused by one patient that has an increase in level didn’t keep the dietary habit.
