Accounting Excursion to Ernst and Young

Accounting Excursion to Ernst and Young

The visit to this Ernest and Young (EY) which is recognized as being one of the big 4 auditing firms in the world, was carried out on Friday 24th of April 2015. Our SGU proposal to do an excursion was really welcomed by the firm, as in line with their requirements to recruit more junior following the need of the industry to assign such well-qualified firm to do auditing. Because of this, the visit was well-prepared and occupied by the presentation of Mr. David, one of the senior partners of EY, who is from the "assurance division" and has been working for EY almost 30 years. A lot of topics related to current issues of financial auditing were shared by Mr. David for the benefit of the students, including how the coverage of auditing is now expanded and requires expertize not only in accounting, but also internal control, fraud examination, risk management, taxation and even Information & Technology. Certification of those fields are extremely important to support the assurance or audit purposes.

Other than the above, EY also gave students very good knowledge in the form of soft-skills training related to "how important the activity & preparation for interview" when the university graduates are applying for a job. Key elements to be noticed by students are disclosed and shared by the EY-HR Department, in order to make students successful to pass the interview process.

During the excursion, the HR Department also presented the theme in connection with career-path in EY for auditors which starts from "intern-level", and then Staff-Assistant, Senior Auditor, Manager before finally at the very top level of being a Director and Partner. Also it is interesting, that 2 (two) students who are graduates from the Accounting Department of SGU were also invited to join the excursion to share their experiences, the pain & happiness of being auditors in EY.
Such a visit is very beneficial to the students as it provides broader perspective about their future career after graduating from Accounting Department. From EY itself, they give feedback which was based on the questionnaires to the students, in which the majority of students were satisfied with the visit and almost 70% of students had a desire to join EY after graduation".
