Bridging Knowledge and Curiosity : SGU Lecturer Leads Launch of New Food Science Books to Engage and Educate
Saturday, August 24, 2024, during the Socialization of Undergraduate Education Standards in the Field of Food Science & Technology and the Launching of the 2024 PATPI Books organized by the Indonesian Association of Food Technologist (PATPI), several important books were launched. Among these, two significant titles were highlighted, with Dr. Ir. Abdullah Muzi Marpaung, MP, Food Technology Swiss German University lecturer, serving as leader of the editorial team. The two books are :
- Pertanyaan and Jawaban Seputar Ilmu Teknologi Pangan dalam Kehidupan Sehari-hari (PJ-ITP): This book aims to bring the concepts and knowledge of food science and technology into people’s daily lives. As a pioneering step, it seeks to bridge the gap between public curiosity and the complex field of food technology. The book addresses numerous questions from the public, highlighting the importance of food science in everyday life and encouraging further engagement with the topic.
- Kamus Istilah Ilmu dan Teknologi Pangan (KI-ITP): This comprehensive dictionary, containing 3,784 meticulously compiled entries, is an essential reference for the rapidly evolving field of food science and technology. It addresses gaps in terminology coverage, especially in Indonesian-language scientific writing. The project was initially conceived by Prof. Umar Santoso and involved 14 authors and eight reviewers who ensured the dictionary’s precision and relevance by using tools like the Term Matching application (PASTI) and referencing the Indonesian dictionary.
The launch of these two books marks a significant milestone in making food science and technology more accessible and understandable to the public and the academic community. The PJ-ITP book will foster greater public awareness and involvement in food technology issues. At the same time, the KI-ITP dictionary will undoubtedly become a vital resource for academics, professionals, and students. The hope is that these books will serve as foundational references and inspire further advancements in the field, ultimately contributing to the development of food science and technology in Indonesia.
