In the midst of globalization and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) era, the next generation is faced with new challenges when they graduated from university. Not only must they be able to compete with graduates from Indonesia, but are also expected to compete with other fresh graduates from abroad. Dr. rer. nat. Filiana Santoso, the Rector of SGU said, "Under the theme of this year’s graduation, 'Qualified Young Generation for Global Competitiveness', today we celebrate the graduation of our young generation who have gone through a variety of challenges so they can compete globally not only for their ability to transform their knowledge and skills into very valuable outputs, but also because of the development of their character when facing life's difficulties – a character that can only be developed by overcoming a variety of circumstances and challenges, not only with textbooks and lectures."

Out of the 329 graduates, 258 were from undergraduate programs and 71 were from graduate programs. Also, for the first time ever SGU awarded a triple-degree to five Hotel and Tourism graduates who spent a year in Switzerland.
