Swiss German University Generates Innovative Leaders in the Age of Industry 4.0 (Graduation Ceremony 2018)
Jakarta, 22 September 2018 – As the first international university in Indonesia founded in 2000, Swiss German University (SGU) proudly held its 15th Graduation Ceremony. The Graduation Ceremony for 301 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Business and Communication, and Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology is the realization of SGU’s vision and mission that emphasizes the learning philosophy to enhance global competitiveness as well as the development of soft skills and character through the local and abroad internship program.
In her opening address, SGU Rector, Dr. rer. nat. Filiana Santoso, said that now we live in a different era where we can access everything online and digitally, and that affects every area and every aspect of human life. “Now that the industry has evolved, we are entering the era of Industry 4.0, an era where cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing are important features in industry. As a higher education institution, SGU always strives to keep up with the latest trends in both the industrial sector and the education sector. In line with the theme of this year’s graduation ceremony ‘Innovative Leaders in the Age of Industry 4.0’, today we celebrate the graduation of young leaders who are ready to contribute to Indonesia’s bright future not only because of their ability to transform their knowledge and skills into excellent results, but also because of their distinctive character that has enabled them to be young and innovative leaders in the age of Industry 4.0,” Filiana said.
Located at Pullman Hotel Central Park Jakarta, SGU proudly congratulated 301 graduates from undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including graduates of the university cooperation program with industry partners, one which is ATMI Cikarang, where the program has been running for 3 years. “Today we are proud to say that our graduates have shown excellent academic results. The average GPA for undergraduate program is 3.41 and for postgraduate programs is 3.53. The highest GPA from the postgraduate program reaches 3.98 from the Master of Information Technology program and the highest GPA from the undergraduate program reaches 3.89 from the Sustainable Energy and Environment program.”
As a university that prioritizes character building and upholds the balance between academic and non-academic achievements, at this year’s Graduation Ceremony, SGU also gave an award in a non-academic category through the E.Y. Kanter for Distinguished Achievement Award, where the award was inspired by the figure of Major General Empi Yohan Kanter who had noble services in the New Order era. This award is given to a student who is active and excels in campus and is known as a figure who has positive character by the campus environment and its surroundings.
The Graduation Ceremony was attended by Ir. Dharnita Chandra, M.Sc., Secretary of the Higher Education Service Agency (Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi/LL-DIKTI) Regional IV West Java and Banten; Chris Kanter, Chairman of SGU Board of Patronage; H.E. Dr. Peter Schoof, Ambassador-designate of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany; H.E. Hakeem Toyin Balogun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Brigitte Gerlach, DAAD Indonesia; Prof. Dr.-Ing. Claus Schuster, Rector of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences; as well as officials and representatives from universities, companies, organizations, local and international institution partners.
SGU has a high commitment to advancing Indonesian higher education and the quality of Indonesian human resources by providing innovative education programs through 11 undergraduate and 3 postgraduate study programs with the award of an international double degree from renowned international institutional partners and industry cooperation with more than 250 companies throughout Indonesia and Europe.
