The Academic Research & Community (ARCS) SGU Empowers Civil Servants Through Basic English Workshop

Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 – The Academic Research & Community Service (ARCS) SGU hosted a Basic English Workshop for Civil Servants (ASN).

The workshop featured distinguished SGU lecturers, including James Edward Hunt, MBA, who delivered an engaging session on the art of confident self-introduction. He emphasized the importance of first impressions and provided practical tips on how to introduce oneself effectively in professional settings.

Barry Andrew Kozemko Jr., M.A., led another insightful session focused on writing basic emails. He covered key functions such as requesting assistance and providing information, and also explained how to describe one’s job in an email. The session aimed to equip participants with the essential skills needed to communicate clearly and professionally via email.

The event saw the participation of thirty civil servants, with fifteen representatives from various Tangerang City Civil Servants and fifteen from various Tangerang District Civil Servants.

Assoc. Prof. Ir. James Purnama, M.Sc., Director of ARCS SGU, presided over the opening and closing ceremonies of the event. In his address, he emphasized the importance of language skills in today’s globalized world and commended the participants for their commitment to self-improvement.

This workshop marks a significant step towards equipping civil servants with essential language skills. By enhancing their ability to communicate in English, the workshop aims to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. It also emphasize SGU’s commitment to community service and its role in fostering professional development among civil servants.
