Pioneering Cybersecurity Education: Swiss German University’s ARCS Department Hosts a Strategic SOC Workshop
Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 — The Academic Research & Community Service (ARCS) department of Swiss German University (SGU) collaborated with the MIT Program (supported by the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Academy Computer Security Incident Response Team (ACAD-CSIRT), and Communication and Informatics Department (Diskominfo) of Tangerang City to host a well-attended cybersecurity workshop.
The workshop focused on strengthening national resilience through the strategic use of Security Operations Centers (SOCs). 65 participants were on site, and 135 joined virtually. The workshop attendees included representatives from various Indonesian ministries and the Communication and Informatics Department (Diskominfo) across Indonesia. Also, from many industry professionals and academics.
The workshop opened with insightful remarks from Assoc—Prof. Ir. James Purnama, M.Sc, Director of ARCS SGU. Then, it continued with the opening speech by Agus Prasetyo, Direktur Keamanan Siber dan Sandi Pembangunan Manusia (BSSN)—further, the signing of the PKS by Indri Astuti. The speakers for this workshop were:
- Andi Yusuf, Director of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), discussed the Role of SOC in Enhancing National Resilience.
- Cori Thurthusi, Head of the Information Security and Encryption Team at Tangerang City Diskominfo, shared the Challenges and Opportunities of Implementing SOC in Tangerang City.
- Prof. Dr. Ir. Richardus Eko Indrajit, M.Sc., MBA., MA., M.Phil., M.Si., Chairman of ACAD-CSIRT, emphasized the importance of Collaboration Between SOC and CSIRT for Effective Incident Response.
- Dr. Ir. Charles Lim, Bsc., Msc., Deputy Head of the Master IT Program at SGU, presented on Cutting-Edge Technologies and Solutions to Optimize SOC Performance.
Tabligh Permana, S.Si, expertly moderated the workshop.
The seminar and workshop aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of SOC concepts, identify organizational needs and challenges, and develop effective strategies to support local governments in combating cyber security threats.
The workshop concluded with a session by Dr Ir. Charles Lim, Bsc., MSc., who demonstrated using the T-Guard Open Source Package for Organizational Cyber Security.
This workshop, in collaboration with several parties and with the expertise shared by distinguished speakers, highlighted the critical role of SOCs in fortifying national security.
