Chemical Engineering Students Excursion to PT. Darmex Agro
On 7th of April 2015, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Sustainable Energy and Environment semester 2 students under Chemical Engineering Department, went to PT Darmex Agro, Bekasi for an excursion program. The objective of this trip is to increase student knowledge about palm oil processing as one of the alternative energy source product and also visit their factory waste treatment.
PT. Darmex Agro is one of the largest palm oil cultivation, production, and exporting group in Indonesia. The company has two subsidiaries which are known as Darmex Oil & Fats and Darmex Biofuels. Darmex Oil & Fats produces one of the most well-known cooking oil in Indonesia and also produces soap noodle for industrial needs. In the other hand, Darmex Biofuels processes crude palm oil to make biodiesel and crude glycerin.
PT. Darmex Agro provided wider understanding for the students about palm oil processing through site visits to the refinery, fractionation, and biofuel plants. The students also learnt about the factory’s waste water treatment which is located in the same block. The company’s waste treatment produces environmental friendly waste through several methods and sophisticated equipment.
