Company Visit to Kalbe Farma by Accounting Students
On May 7, 2015, semester 2 and 4 accounting students visited PT. Kalbe Farma which was established in 1966 by a family in the northern part of Jakarta and is currently the biggest pharmaceutical corporation in Indonesia. Moreover PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk includes affiliates of PT Hexpharm and PT Dankos Laboratories, which are also running in the same line of businesses. Our visit was mainly aimed at providing our students with more knowledge in the business processes of the medicine manufacturing industry. The participants of the visit were not only kindly welcomed by the HR Manager & Team, but also by the senior officer in charge of Quality Control (QC) and Research & Development Division (R & D).
Their philosophy of “DJITU” is their key success for the business development, which has meaning of Discipline, Jujur (honesty), Innovation, Tangguh (strong) and Ulet (determined). Almost 3 hours’ time was spent for the introduction of The Company Profile, and then followed by gallery visits to those premises related to the Quality Control as well as R & D. We fortunately got a chance to see their main production process of OTC (over the counter) medicines which is fully automated & efficiently-produced. A lot of questions were asked by the students in connection with cost accounting subjects.
We highly expected that our accounting students will have more options and be optimistic for their future career in the manufacturing business. It must be noted that important points related to manufacturing costs, pricing policy of the products, company budgeting, and internal control are really the area of which accounting people have to deal with and be responsible for.
