On 13th until 15th March 2015, Business Administration (BA) Students in semester 4 went to Yogyakarta for an Entrepreneurial excursion, in order to enrich themselves before they do their business projects during semester 4, which is developing a product with the theme of Batik. The excursion was held so that the BA Students would have a chance to see how SME’s build their businesses and find ideas for their own projects. They were accompanied by lecturers, Mr. Junaidi Sinaga and Ms. Hasniati Halim.

On the first day, upon arrival at the Adisucipto Airport, students went to Sanggar Peni, Batik Kayu at Bantul Yogyakarta. In Sanggar Peni, students had a chance to try make Batik masks, starting from drawing the pattern for the masks, using a canting, and applying wax to the patterns that were drawn. They also got a chance to see the process of making Batik wood, starting from the raw material until it finish.

The second day, they went to Batik Topo. In Batik Topo, students also had a chance to see the process of making Batik Cap and Batik Tulis and again they got a chance to draw batik with canting and wax in fabric. After that, they went to An Nur Herbal Company, even though it was not related with Batik, but students learned valuable lessons from the company, starting from how they established their company in the beginning until they have become a well-known brand today.

On the last day, students went to Batik Roro Jongrang, a company that is more developed than the previous others in terms of tourism. Because Roro Jongrang is not a small or medium enterprise anymore, students could see from their product pricing, it is more expensive than the other places they had visited. This company provides a better quality product and more options of batik patterns. After visiting Roro Jongrang, they went to Bakpia 25 to see how the process of making a Bakpia and in done finally shopped for souvenirs.

The students remarked that they were very satisfied with the entrepreneurial excursion, since they were able to gain a great deal of new knowledge about Batik products and its business by experiencing it directly. The excursion successfully stimulated their entrepreneurial spirit and gave them inspiration about their business projects.
