Master of Information Technology Guest Lecture Series: Why Many Large IT Projects Fail
Swiss German University, Master of Information Technology (MIT) was honored to have knowledge sharing experience from Ms. Riny Kawi, S.T., MBA regarding Program and Project Management, specifically how to handle big Information Technology projects with multi-national companies involving intercultural team members. The event began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Ir. Moh. A. Amin Soetomo, Head MIT on Saturday, February 21st, 2015.
Sharing her expertise, Ms Kawi argued that PMBOK framework, i.e. certified project management framework should be combined with a SWOT analysis, a.k.a strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats. Based on her experience, with all projects that are complex and difficult to manage and control, in order to meet the projects’ objectives or even to exceed them, there should be a focus on the resources available in project strengths and any threats removed immediately when found. Sometimes threats assessed are not obviously clear; therefore, an experienced and skillful program manager may need to use intuitively her/his leadership style to overcome threat issues. Communication and lobbying techniques are also necessary to achieve the projects’ success.
