The purpose of the seminar was to provide awareness and a comprehensive insight of the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The seminar also discussed challenges, opportunities and threats during the implementation of AEC. Essentially, ASEAN will be a single market and production base, characterized by free flow of goods, services, investments, skilled labor, and capital among ASEAN countries. By having the information of AEC, students are expected to prepare themselves so that they can be more competitive in their field because AEC will open a new form of competition, especially for skilled labor, that they have never seen before.

It is expected by attending the Seminar, Master of Mechanical Engineering students may change the way they learn during their master study. It is important for students of MME to realize that they must be able to work and live with their ASEAN friends.  For SGU’s faculty members of Engineering and IT, it is important that students are equipped with the necessary soft skills as this will be meaningful for them during the AEC Era.
