SGU and Bank Indonesia Sign Cooperation Agreement on Kampus Merdeka Program

Swiss German University (SGU) and the Bank Indonesia Institute (BI) signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for Kampus Merdeka Bank Indonesia (KMBI) program, virtually, Friday (29/1/2021). With this agreement, SGU students who pass the recruitment process, can study, work on projects/research, and do internships for one to two semesters at Bank Indonesia.

Kampus Merdeka Program was launched by the Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, in January 2020. The program is mainly related to the arrangement for students to study outside their study program or university. SGU is one of 17 campuses in Indonesia selected to take part in the 2nd stage of KMBI.

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Swiss German University, Irvan S. Kartawiria, said that SGU welcomed the cooperation with BI. “We welcome this wonderful opportunity. Students can contribute to the program and become one of the best in their class, “he said.

Irvan said SGU also had a vision for an independent campus since its inception. There are two big points that are the reasons why SGU is an independent campus. The first point is that SGU students spend a lot of their time studying outside the campus, even in Europe. SGU is a university that works directly with university partners in Europe, especially Switzerland and Germany.

“Next week we will dispatch our students to campuses in Germany and Switzerland. They will spend one semester on the campus, “he said.

The second reason is that SGU has two apprenticeship programs in the undergraduate student curriculum. SGU has the vision to be connected with the industry. Apart from that, SGU also often conducts joint research projects with the industry.

“We see that this program, apprenticeship is the hallmark of SGU. We are even the only private university that has a special internship directorate,” said Irvan.

The Head of the Bank Indonesia Institute, Solikin M. Juhro, said that BI is on the same platform as SGU for the success of the KMBI. Bank Indonesia has long had a central bank program that was integrated with universities in Indonesia.

“We are very excited to invite new friends. For the second stage of KMBI, SGU, with all its advantages, is a university that we collaborate with, ” said Solikin.

Bank Indonesia has a mutual symbiotic relationship with universities. Bank Indonesia can provide scientific support for universities. Conversely, universities can also immediately provide input on Bank Indonesia’s policies.

The KMBI program will include students from universities that have collaborated with BI. Each tertiary institution will provide recommendations for students who will then follow the selection conducted by Bank Indonesia.
