SGU Won the 3rd Place on Alternative Energy Competition Surabaya

On the 27th to 30th of March 2015, two students from the Chemical Engineering Department – Sustainable Energy and Environment (SEE) and one student from Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology participated in Mechanical City Alternative Energy Competition in Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Surabaya. This national competition sends the participant against the challenges of finding suitable methods of renewable or green energy, moderated and judged by major stakeholders of Indonesia's power businesses, such as Indonesia POWER, Garuda Indonesia, and Toyota.

Our second semester students Joshua Alpha and Rosa Belinda, and eighth semester student Michael Gondokusumo have won third place against tough competition with the concept of bicycle-powered battery charger for regions with electricity problems, outcompeting 11 other teams. The first and the second place winner crowned to two groups from Universitas Indonesia. This joint project also involves the Life Sciences and Technology faculty members, where lecturers Fuad Ughi, MT, Dr. -Ing. Evita H. Legowo, and Hery Sutanto, M.Si, acted as project supervisors. 

The team first submitted an scientific report about their findings for their projects to qualify, then is expected to present a design mock-up or a prototype, where the team successfully delivered an outstanding presentation to the panel and impressed their positive judgment. We are proud to win this position, in the middle of though contestants from big names UI, UGM, ITS, and UNS. This debut victory is a small step for these three students, but truly a giant leap for Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology.
