Food Technology Department of Swiss German University and the IPB Team Represent Indonesia at IPSFAB 2017
The Faculty of Technology Mahasarakham University (MSU) Thailand organized the 4th International Postgraduate Symposium on Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology (IPSFAB) on August 30 – 31st 2017. On this special occasion, the Food Technology study program of Swiss German University (SGU) and the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) became the Indonesian representatives attending the International Symposium at Mahasarakham Province, Thailand. The objective of this symposium was to share the participants’ collected knowledge and research experience of food, agriculture and biotechnology among postgraduates and researchers from Thai and ASEAN universities. IPSFAB 2017 was attended by countries among ASEAN and China, and all the participants presented research topics on any aspect of food, agriculture, and biotechnology as Food Microbiology, Food & Nutrition, Agricultural Technology, Bioenergy, Microbial Biotechnology, and Food Processing.
The Food Technology department of SGU sent Della Rahmawati, S.Si, M.Si, Dr.-Ing Diah Indriani Widiputri ST., M.Sc, Mutiara Pratiwi, STP, M.Si, and Maria Dewi P.T Gunawan Puteri M.Sc., PhD as the representatives to participate in the 4th international symposium. It was a great achievement for SGU to be successfully involved in an international event with the aim of developing food science and technology as one of the key factors in making our science research become world class and globally competitive.
IPSFAB 2017 lasted for 2 days and had various activities, such as keynote talks and oral / poster presentations. The Keynote on the first day was delivered by Prof. Dr. Fure-Chyi Chen from Pingtung, Taiwan, on the subject of “Orchid Breeding”. This first keynote talk was implemented by Cross Talk between the industry and academia, and students training at National Pingtung Univeristy of Science and Technology. The second keynote talk on the second day was delivered by Prof. Dr. Karmol Lertrat from Khon Kaen University, Thailand on the topic of “Smart Farm”. In addition, the oral presentations, which were held three times in 2 days, also successfully obtained a great achievement for SGU which should be appreciated. The committee acknowledged the Indonesian representatives as strong team. One of our SGU lecturers, Maria Dewi P.T Gunawan Puteri M.Sc., PhD, successfully won the first prize for Young Researcher Oral Presentation at IPSFAB 2017.
Through this international symposium, SGU aimed to take an active role in enhancing community wellbeing and promoting Integrated ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by encouraging the three main scientific areas of Food Sciencie & Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Biotechnology. In addition to this, through the symposium, SGU can now focus more on internationalizing the curricula through the symposium and finding more opportunities to collaborate in research and academic activities.
