Mechatronics Day 4.0 – A Robotics Competition for the Young Generation
On 19-21 October 2018, SGU’s Mechatronics department held Mechatronics Day 4.0 at Living World Mall, Alam Sutera, Tangerang. Mechatronics Day is an annual event aiming to introduce both high school and university students about the world’s current technology trends. Therefore, through this event, hopefully the participants can get new insights and knowledge about the current technology trends and utilize it in the future.
The event was attended by SGU Rector, Dr. rer. nat. Filiana Santoso; the Deputy Secretary for Youth Development of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KEMENPORA), Dr. H. Amar Ahmad M.Si.; and Mechatronics program lecturers.
This event was supported by Swiss German University, FESTO, and KEMENPORA. FESTO supported the event by providing all equipment needed for the competition. KEMENPORA also supported the competition by granting certificates that had been signed by the Minister of KEMENPORA. Dr. Amar also delivered a speech during the opening ceremony.
There were 14 teams participated in the competition and each team consists of 3 students. They were competing to make a wall-follower robot that can pass tracks easily and fast. The winners in the high school category were: Pelangi Kasih School who won the first place, Cahaya Bangsa Classical School won the second place, and the third place was won by Cigombong Senior High School. Karawang Vocational High School was chosen as the Harapan 1 winner and MAN 4 Tangerang was chosen as the Harapan 2 winner. The judges in the high school competition were from SGU lecturers and professionals, namely Mr. Benny Widjaja, Mr. Eka Budiarto, and Mr. William Irawan as the CEO of Prime Technology Indonesia.
The competition at the university level was followed by 13 teams with each team consisting of 2 students. They were competing to create an electropneumatic program using a modular production system device from PT Festo Didactic. Judges at the university level competition were from professionals and industry, including Mr. Eka Apriandi from PT. Festo Didactic, Ms. Melisa Mulyadi from Atmajaya University, and Mr. Aldrian Wiranata from PT. Prime Technology Indonesia
The first winner was Felicia Christy and Steven Jonathan from SGU, the second winner was from Maranatha Christian University Bandung, and the third winner came from the Astra Manufacturing Polytechnic Jakarta. The Harapan 1 and Harapan 2 winners came from Gajah Mada University Yogyakarta and the Astra Manufacturing Polytechnic Jakarta.
Hopefully, through this competition, the young generation will become tech-savvy in this digital era and encourage them to be a creative and critical person.
