School Supplies Development by High School Students
School equipment, stationery , and other supplies for schools are examples of products that keep on developing over time.. The manufacturers should keep innovating their products to fulfil what the market demand from day to day, based on current development. That was the main reason why Industrial Engineering of Swiss German University organized an event entitled Industrial Engineering Design Competition (IEDC) in early January 2018. They invited high school students to propose their new ideas and concepts of stationery and other supplies for schools. The new products can be totally new or improve on existing products.
The event was divided into 2 sessions over a two week period. In the first week, the participants given an introduction to Industrial Engineering area and be guided in developing a business and project of their new idea / concept. This introduction was given to the participants in the form of a workshop about product design and process design development. The mentors for this competition also taught them how to transfer the idea into a sketch. In the second week, which was also the final session, participants presented their final product sketch in front of the judges. They explained the reason behind their product concept, the purpose of their products, how they made it, and how it works.
IEDC successfully selected 3 participants as the top achievers . Mikhael Sihitewith his “Fidsta” known as a pencil with fidget spinner won first place. Then Dhea Priskilla came second with her “Maxis”, stationary pads, and Yohanes ImanuelSeptianto came third with his multifunctional bag. All the winners were from SMAK BPK Penabur Summarecon Bekasi. SGU would like to congratulate them for the brilliant ideas they offered during this IEDC and are ready to welcome them as future Industrial Engineering candidates.
